How to Draw a Caterpillar
In this lesson you will learn how to draw a caterpillar. This drawing tutorial is simple and consists of just nine steps.
I have prepared a new interesting lesson in which you can learn how to draw a caterpillar. I think you have seen such an insect as a caterpillar many times. A caterpillar is the larva of a butterfly or moth. Caterpillars of most species eat plant material, most often leaves. Caterpillars are typically voracious feeders and many of them are among the most serious of agricultural pests.
Caterpillars have soft bodies that can grow rapidly between molts. They have six proper legs, like all insects, but also up to five pairs of stumpy prolegs with little hooks that help them to hang onto things and to move in a wave-like motion.

How to Draw a Caterpillar
- Depict the lower part of the caterpillar’s body.
This step is very easy to do, you have to draw just one long curved line to complete it.
- Add the upper outline of the caterpillar’s body.
Connect the ends of the previously drawn curved line with another longer curved line.
- Draw the facial features.
On the caterpillar’s head depict the eye as an oval, and add other elements, using curved lines.
- Outline the decorative elements.
To complete this step, add five identical curved lines to the body of the caterpillar.
- Add more decorative elements.
On the back part of the caterpillar’s torso draw the same curved lines as in the previous step.
- Draw the caterpillar’s legs.
Depict five curved lines at the front of the insect’s body at the bottom.
- Add the rest of the legs of the caterpillar.
In the lower part of the back of the caterpillar’s body, add the five legs, as in the previous step.
- Draw the decorative elements.
Along the upper outline of the whole caterpillar’s body add many short lines of different sizes.
- Color the drawing.
Use green and black to color this caterpillar. On the caterpillar’s eye depict the highlights.

How to Draw a Caterpillar: Additional Method
This instruction looks different from the one you saw above. First draw the eyes, then the outline of the head. After that, using semicircles, draw the body of the caterpillar and finish everything off by drawing the legs.
