How to Draw a Gummy Bear
- Create the bears main body forms.
To make your gummy bear easy to start and finish, it’s important to create some basic shapes. So begin with two simple and large shapes. Sketch a rounded oval at the top for the head, then connect a slightly larger oval below it for the body.
- Place the eyes and nose.
Facial features are small but very important in giving your drawing of a gummy bear its distinctive look. Inside the upper oval, sketch two small circles for the eyes. Place a slightly larger oval just below the center line for the nose.
- Sketch the mouth and muzzle.
With the eyes and nose in place, it’s time to give the bear a smile. Draw a circle around the nose to create the snout. From the bottom of the nose, sketch a couple of short lines to form the mouth. If you want the bear to look especially cute, you can raise the corners of the mouth even higher.
- Draw the gummy bear’s ears.
Now that the facial features are complete, you can add ears to finish the head’s outline. Sketch two rounded semi-circles on top of the head, one on each side. Make them fairly large. Inside the ears sketch smaller shapes for the inner details.
- Outline the arms on both sides.
The arms of the gummy bear should look very simple. Draw two oval-like shapes on the upper sides of the body oval, making them to rest along the front. Keep both arms at the same height so the whole figure looks symmetrical.
- Outline the gummy bear’s paws.
Adding the legs will complete the basic sitting shape of the gummy bear. Sketch two large circles or ovals at the bottom of the body, overlapping the base of the torso. These ovals should be similar in size. Because gummy bears are chubby, make the legs look thick.
- Draw the legs and paw circles.
Move to the sides of the toes of the gummy bear drawing and draw the legs with a couple of smooth simple lines. Draw curved lines inside each leg shape to illustrate the paws. To make it a bit more detailed, you can add small ovals for the toes.
- Trace the final contours.
Before adding color, it’s always good to refine the outlines. So carefully erase any construction lines or unnecessary marks that aren’t main part of the final drawing. Trace the main contours to make the shape look more beautiful. Also, don’t forget to check proportions and symmetry.
- Add a candy-like color.
Traditionally, gummy bears come in bright shades like red, green, yellow, or orange, but you can choose any color you like. Fill in the entire body with a smooth and simple tone. If you want to convey a candy-like shine, you can leave small highlights uncolored along the head or arms.
Easy Gummy Bear Drawing Tutorial
Sketch the head and body outline as a single continuous shape with rounded ears at the top. Add two circular shapes on the body for the arms. Below, draw two more circles for the legs. Connect the shapes smoothly so the body looks like a single piece.
Add facial features such as eyes, a small nose, and a curved mouth. Include small details like the inner curves of the ears. Erase any rough construction lines and refine the outline so it looks polished. For coloring, use a bright candy-like tone such as red, green, or yellow.
