How to Draw a Squishmallow: Introduction

I probably don’t need to explain what a Squishmallow is – if you’ve landed on this page, chances are you’re already familiar with them. What you may not know yet is how to draw a Squishmallow, and that’s exactly what I’ll be showing you today in a clear, step-by-step format.

In this tutorial, I’ll demonstrate how to draw a Squishmallow using a cute plush cat as an example. However, all the drawing techniques shown here can be used to create any other Squishmallow character from the series. The basic approach stays the same, no matter which animal or theme you choose.

You’re free to adjust parts of the drawing as you go. You can add or remove features, change the colors, or create your own patterns to make your Squishmallow drawing look unique or match your favorite design. These adjustments allow you to make your artwork look much different than my example.

Just like with my teddy bear drawing tutorial or any other tutorial on my website, you don’t need any advanced drawing skills to learn how to draw a Squishmallow. These adorable characters are made up of very simple shapes and lines, making them some of the easiest things to draw.

How to Draw a Squishmallow

  1. Sketch the body shape.

Aa in almost any other drawing tutorial, start your Squishmallow drawing by sketching the basic body shape. This shape resembles a large, soft, rounded oval – almost like a squished egg or marshmallow. The lines should be smooth and curved, with no sharp angles.Sketch the body shape

  2. Draw the Squishmallow’s eyes.

Instead of traditional open eyes, this version features closed, smiling eyes made with simple curved lines. Each eye is shaped like a short horizontal curve, resembling a small upward arc. Make sure they are symmetrical. But of course, you can draw the eyes open, using circles or ovals.Draw the Squishmallow’s eyes

  3. Add the toy’s nose.

Now draw the small oval-shaped nose right between the eyes, slightly below their level. Keep it centered to maintain symmetry. This nose should be small and round. The nose acts as the anchor for the next part of the face, so it’s important to place it carefully.Add the toy’s nose

  4. Sketch the cat moth.

Using the nose as your central guide, draw the mouth just underneath it. The mouth consists of two small curved lines extending outward from the base of the nose, forming a gentle W shape. This gives your Squishmallow a sweet, calm smile. As with the rest of the facial features, the simplicity is very important.Sketch the cat moth

  5. Add the whiskers.

To complete the facial features, draw three short straight lines extending out from each side of the face to represent whiskers. These should begin just outside the curve of the mouth. You can make the whiskers look longer or shorter to give your Squishmallow drawing look more unique.Add the whiskers

  6. Draw the Squishmallow’s ears.

Draw one triangular ear on each side of the Squishmallow’s head, giving the tips a smooth and curved look. Each ear should start near the top corners of the Squishmallow’s body, just above the eyes. Angle the ears slightly outward. You can adjust the size and shape of the ears if you want.Draw the Squishmallow’s ears

  7. Add patch outlines.

These curved lines will divide areas of the Squishmallow’s body into different color sections. Add one large curved line across the top of the head and another one near the bottom of the body to show a color patch wrapping around the side. These lines don’t need to be symmetrical or follow a strict pattern.Add patch outlines

  8. Color the Squishmallow drawing.

Finish your Squishmallow drawing by adding color to the outlined sections. Use soft and light colors. For this example, fill in the left ear and patch at the top left with a warm brown, and use gray for the ear at the right and the large bottom patch. Leave the center of the body a light beige or cream tone.Color the Squishmallow drawing
