How to Draw Jason
The subject of this lesson is among the most famous horror movie figures, explained here in how to draw Jason Voorhees.

How to Draw Jason Voorhees: Introduction
In this tutorial, I will show you how to draw Jason. This is the protagonist of the “Friday, The 13th” film series. Subsequently, books, comics, and computer games with this character were published.
Jason Voorhees is known as a homicidal maniac who had supernatural strength, excellent hearing, sight, and smell. It is also known that Jason could regenerate well. That is, this hero was practically invulnerable and thus caused horror and fear in people. However, you should not be afraid of this character. In this tutorial, Jason is presented in a cartoon style and has a completely harmless appearance.
Pay attention to body proportions. The head is much larger than the body. Hands and feet are small. Jason’s face was deformed as a result of the disease, so he wore a hockey mask on his head. The clothes are the most common – a simple shirt and overalls in dark colors. You will show all these features in your drawing, thanks to this Jason will be easily recognizable.
The lesson consists of several simple steps and at each drawing step there will be a small hint. Therefore, you can easily draw this character. I hope that the lesson will be exciting, and you will have a good time doing such a creative activity.

How to Draw Jason Voorhees
- Outline the head and torso guidelines.
To set up the proportions, it’s important to first outline the general shape. To do this, sketch a large oval for the head and connect a slightly narrower rounded rectangle underneath for the torso. Don’t forget to make your lines light at this stage, since many parts of these lines will be erased in the next steps.
- Add the eyes and ears.
With the main structure in place, the next step is to illustrate the facial placement. Sketch two large circles for the openings of the mask and place smaller circles or ovals to draw the eyes. Then, draw small rounded ears on each side of the head.
- Draw Jason’s mask patterns and holes.
The defining element of Jason’s iconic look is his hockey mask. Draw small rectangles on the forehead and sides for the strap piece, then sketch rows of circles across the face to represent the mask holes. Add a small triangular mark in the center above the nose line.
- Illustrate the jacket with pockets.
Sketch the collar lines using a couple of small triangles, then the side edges of the jacket falling from the sides of the neck downward. After that, add rectangular pocket shapes on the torso. Use fairly simple shapes for the jacket. Watch the symmetry of the collar and pocket shapes.
- Draw the long sleeves and hands.
Sketch simple tubular shapes from the sides of the torso to form Jason’s arms. At the end of each, draw small simplified hands with only slight separation for fingers. You can make your Jason drawing look more unique by adding some details in his hands.
- Sketch the jagged shirt and legs.
To finish the main clothing form, draw two straight vertical shapes downward from the jacket for the legs. The legs should be about the same length as the torso. Then, draw the bottom edge of the shied below the jacket using using an irregular and torn line.
- Draw Jason’s shoes at the bottom.
Draw two rounded oval shapes at the bottom of the legs for Jason’s shoes. They should be simple, wide, and flat on the bottom. At the very bottom of the shoes draw soles using two short and slightly curved lines. You can add laces or other details for a more detailed look.
- Check the figure and adjust lines.
Now it’s time to finalize the drawing by tracing the important lines and removing any unnecessary marks. You need to erase mostly parts of the auxiliary lines that we drew in the very first step and that helped us depict the proportions correctly but are no longer needed.
- Color Jason’s mask and clothes.
Let’s add colors to give the character its final look. Apply a pale skin tone for the face and hands, making the mask lighter to show the difference between skin and the hockey mask. Add black for the shoes and the darker spots on the mask. A muted green or khaki shade works well for the different parts of the clothes.
Bonus: Easy Jason Drawing Tutorial
To draw Jason in this more simplified way, outline the head with a large oval shape and add a small rectangular section below it for the body. Continue the figure by sketching simple legs with straight vertical lines and divide them with a horizontal guideline.
Add the arms on each side with rounded lines. Indicate the jacket details with vertical and diagonal lines on the torso to convey the pockets and folds.
For the mask, place the eyes as large ovals and surround them with smaller circular and triangular shapes to represent the pattern. Finish the drawing by outlining the gloves, shoes, and jacket details, then apply flat colors to each part of the Jason drawing.
