Basic Information on How to Draw Squirtle
In my lesson on how to draw Squirtle. This funny turtle is depicted half-turned. Squirtle stands on his lower legs, with his upper legs extended forward. The head and body of the turtle are initially presented in the form of two circles that are connected to each other.
First you will determine the size and placement of the circles, and then you will shape Squirtle into the desired shape and add small details.
Try to move from simple to complex, first outline the outer contour, then detail individual parts of the character’s body. This drawing principle allows you to avoid mistakes and correctly depict any object.

How to Draw Squirtle
- Draw the outline of the character’s head and torso.
Begin by drawing two overlapping circles, the top slightly smaller than the bottom. This will form the foundational shape of Squirtle’s the head and body.
- Start drawing the facial features.
Draw a small bump on the Pokemon’s face on the left. It is the contours of the mouth that look so unusual because of the angle. Then add the outlines of the eyes, which are also distorted due to the angle and look very different.
- Finish drawing the character’s facial features.
Add a couple more highlights to the contours of the eyes. Pokemon are still drawn in the anime style, and, as you know, the eyes are always very detailed. Also, draw the nostrils in the form of dots and the line of the mouth.
- Add the outline of the Pokémon’s shell.
Many Pokemon are clearly based on real-life animals. Squirtle looks a lot like a turtle, so let’s give him a small, rounded shell.
- Depict the character’s limbs.
This is a great time to draw our Pokemon’s limbs. These are short and rounded figures that are located laterally in relation to the body.
- Finish drawing the paws of the Pokémon.
Our Pokemon’s fingers are the same, but due to the pose they also look different. On the upper limbs these are clearly visible triangles. Below these are wider and more complex figures.
- Sketch out the character’s tail.
Squirtle has a round, large tail. So, draw a tail with a slight bend like in our example. Pay attention to the shape of the tail, which gradually tapers towards the body.
- Add decorative elements.
This is almost the end of our Pokemon Squirtle drawing lesson. In this step we will draw the front part of the shell. To make it easier, you can draw the cross first and then add the side lines.
- Color the drawing.
Color the Pokemon with shades of blue for the body and a brownish tint for the shell. Add highlights and shadows to give the character a three-dimensional appearance.
