How to Draw a Beach Ball: Introduction

In this tutorial, I will show you how to draw a beach ball. The step-by-step guide is designed for children and beginners and contains simple elements that you can easily repeat.

In one of my previous tutorials, I showed how to draw a ball using a soccer ball as an example. We also used very simple lines and shapes to recreate that object on paper. When you start drawing a beach ball, you will notice similarities in the early steps and clearly see the distinctive differences at later stages.

The main difference between a beach ball and a soccer ball is the patch system and the use of light, colorful sections. A beach ball is often used for various games on the beach or in the water. Adults and children enjoy playing different beach games that involve a small ball.

Drawing a beach ball is simple. The main task is to create an even outline, after which you can complete the rest of the elements without difficulty. For coloring, you can use the colors suggested in the instructions or choose any other shades.

How to Draw a Beach Ball

  1. Draw the outline of the beach ball.

Draw a large, smooth circle near the center of your sheet for the basic shape of the beach ball. Try to draw the circle as even and round as possible because the overall neatness of the beach ball will depend on this first step. If it helps, you can lightly sketch it or use a circular object like a bowl or lid to trace around.Draw the outline of the beach ball

  2. Sketch the small central circle.

Inside the top part of the ball, draw a small oval shape. This will represent the circular patch often found on a beach ball. Position the oval slightly off-center toward the top right or left, but not too close to the outer edge. This small detail helps give the ball a more realistic and recognizable appearance.Sketch the small central circle

  3. Outline the first panel.

From the small oval you just drew, add two long lines that curve outward and touch the outer edge of the circle. These lines will form the first section of the ball. These lines should not be straight; instead, give them a gentle, flowing curve to match the round shape of the ball.Outline the first panel

  4. Add another section.

Now, continue shaping the beach ball by drawing more curved lines from the small oval toward the edge of the ball. These lines should go in different directions from the two you previously drew, creating more sections. Again, allow the lines to curve slightly to maintain the ball’s rounded look.Add another section

  5. Finalize the panel layout.

This step will complete the full panel layout. By now, your beach ball should be divided into several curved sections, all radiating from the small oval in the center. Check your lines to make sure the sections are fairly even around the ball. If any of the areas seem too wide or too narrow, you can lightly adjust the lines.Finalize the panel layout

  6. Add color to the beach ball.

Now that the drawing is complete, you can move on to coloring the beach ball. Typically, beach balls are very colorful, with each section painted in a different bright color such as yellow, red, blue, or green. Choose vibrant, contrasting shades to make the ball look authentic. You can leave the small oval button white.Add color to the beach ball

Conclusion

The beach ball drawing lesson is complete, and now you have learned how to sketch another type of ball. I hope you did good work and created a great drawing. Using the same principles, you can draw any other type of ball. Try drawing several different options.

For example, you can draw a soccer ball, which also starts with a perfect circle but adds completely different hexagonal patches. Or you can draw a baseball, another ball that begins with a circle but finishes with a distinctive look made up of curved, seamed patches.
