How to Draw a Tropical Flower
- Sketch the first three flower petals.
As Iโve said in my previous flower drawing tutorials, these plants begin with their base, and here itโs important to define the first petals of the bud. Sketch a rounded shape in the middle for the very first petal, then draw two oval petals on each side.
- Sketch three petals above the center.
To finalize the bud, draw more petals above the first ones. You can sketch three larger petals arching up. Try to make the curves of the petals smooth and similar to each other, but allow for a bit of asymmetry, since petals in nature rarely line up with mathematical precision.
- Draw stamens in the center of the tropical flower.
Sketch several thin, curved lines moving up from the center core, each topped with a small oval or circle. These lines with circles should spread to the sides evenly. Floral artists often exaggerate stamens in drawings to make the drawing look more decorative look, so donโt be afraid to draw them prominently.
- Sketch the flower base and stem.
No flower looks complete without its support, so now add the base that connects the petals to the stem. Below this base, sketch the stem with two smooth and long lines. The lines should be parallel and slightly curved.
- Place leaves on each side of the stem.
Leaves are very important for the overall look in a floral composition, so place a couple of them alongside the stem. Draw them as two elongated shapes. You can sketch them symmetrically on the same level, or draw one leaf a bit higher than the second one.
- Add veins to the leaves.
Now it’s time to add small but important details to your tropical flower drawing. First, draw the central veins on the leaves from the previous steps. Next, you can add text on the petals for a more realistic look. Again, keep the lines smooth and simple.
- Clean up and smooth the flower outlines.
At this stage, your tropical flower has all its parts, but the sketch may still look rough. Carefully erase any extra guide lines and darken the important lines. Smooth out the petal and leaf edges, giving them natural and realistic look.
- Color the petals and leaves.
Paint the petals of the tropical flower in a soft pink or red and color the leaves green. The stamens can be yellow or light orange. But as with any other flower drawing, you are free to choose absolutely any color combinations for your variation.

Outline the first petal with a broad curved shape, then continue adding petals one by one around the center until all five are complete. Each petal should be slightly irregular to avoid the look of a perfect circle, but still similar in size. Inside the petals, add short curved lines for folds.
Draw the small central details such as stamens and circular shapes. Add a few large leaves from behind the flower and point in different directions. Add simple inner lines on the leaves for veins.
Erase any extra construction marks and refine the outline. For coloring, use bright tones such as pink or red for the petals, yellow for the center, and green for the leaves. This results in a simple and recognizable tropical flower drawing.

Conclusion
The lesson is over and now you can evaluate the result. Hope you did your best every step of the way and that the tropical flower looks great. You can show the drawing to your friends and invite them to do drawing lessons together. It will be interesting!
