How to Draw Pochacco: Introduction

Pochacco is a Sanrio character with floppy ears and sporty look, sketched in a really basic style with simple lines. In this tutorial on how to draw Pochacco, we will continue creating Sanrio characters and sketch this cute chibi dog in a recognizable style.

As with other Sanrio characters, we will use minimalist lines and create cartoonish proportions with a large head and a small body. In the coloring, we will also stick to minimalism – no shadows or volume, just simple flat colors.

Pay close attention to the placement of the eyes and nose. They should stay near the center of the head. The character’s forehead should be noticeably high, which will give him a cartoonish and cute look.

Like all other Sanrio characters, Pochacco can be dressed in different clothes, so you can change him into a striped or dotted t-shirt. For extra details, draw Pochacco holding a small object or sitting next to another Sanrio character.

How to Draw Pochacco

  1. Sketch Pochacco’s head shape.

To start to draw Pochacco, sketch a large rounded shape for his head, like an oval with a slightly flattened bottom. Add a few short hair spikes at the top center of the head to indicate his signature hairstyle. Don’t draw the lines perfectly continuous, instead, leave tiny gaps in a few places.Sketch Pochacco’s head shape

  2. Sketch long dog ears.

Next, draw Pochacco’s iconic floppy dog ears to the sides of his head. On the left, sketch a long and thin ear pointing sideways. On the right, add a second ear pointing upward. Both ears should start near the top of the head and extend out, but feel free to vary the direction slightly for your own version.Sketch long dog ears

  3. Sketch the eyes and nose.

To draw Pochacco’s face, add two small ovals for eyes, placing them in the middle of the face. Then draw a tiny oval for his nose, centered between the eyes but slightly lower. Keep the eyes simple – no eyelashes or reflections – to match Pochacco’s minimal Sanrio style.Sketch the eyes and nose

  4. Start drawing Pochacco’s shirt.

To sketch this part, first draw the neck using a small curve just below the character’s head. Next, draw the shoulders and sleeves that flare out from the bottom of the head. These lines create the top of his body. The shoulders don’t need a lot of detail – Pochacco’s bottom of the shirt and arms will be added next.Start drawing Pochacco’s shirt

  5. Sketch the bottom of the shirt.

Finish drawing Pochacco’s shirt by creating the lower part, using a couple of lines to outline the sides and a long curved line to define the bottom edge. In this step, as before, do not use unnecessary details and try to use smooth simple lines.Sketch the bottom of the shirt

  6. Sketch the character’s legs.

Now draw Pochacco’s lower body by sketching two simple rounded leg shapes below the shirt. The legs should be sketched with simple lines and meet in the center with a curved line forming a small “V” to indicate the separation. Keep the legs short and very simple, without feet and toes.Sketch the character’s legs

  7. Draw the arm of Pochacco.

To finish the main structure, draw Pochacco’s arms on either side of his body. Sketch two short, curved lines starting from the shoulder area down to the sides of the shirt. Keeping the shapes of the hands simple and mitten-like without fingers.Draw the arm of Pochacco

  8. Add colors to your artwork.

To paint your sketch you can use white for his body, black for his ears, and pink or red for his shirt. Color his nose black and add a small pink blush on his cheeks if you’d like to make him look even cuter. If you drew Pochacco in other clothes, then you can use absolutely any combination of colors and tones.Add colors to your artwork
