How to Draw a Reindeer
- Draw the outline of the head and torso.
Start your reindeer with two simple shapes: a large oval for the body and a smaller circle for the head. The oval should be horizontal and placed slightly lower than the circle to allow room for the neck.
- Add the front of the head, the neck, and the tail.
Connect the head and body with a pair of curved lines to form the neck. A small, triangle shape on the back end of the body will serve as the tail. Don’t forget to add a slight frontal curve to the face.
- Draw the facial features.
For the reindeer’s face, draw a small circle for the nose on the lower right side of the head circle. Then, add a gentle curve to create the mouth line and a circle to represent the eye.
- Depict the reindeer’s ears.
So, draw two small, curved triangular shapes on top of the head for ears. They should be rounded, not pointy, to give the appearance of a young gentle deer.
- Add the horns.
In this step, add two branching shapes above the head for the antlers. The antlers are a defining characteristic of a reindeer, so draw them with several branches to make them look full and impressive.
- Draw the paws.
Draw the front legs by adding two straight, parallel lines downward from the body. The legs should be slightly wider at the top and narrow down towards the hooves.
- Add the second pair of paws.
Just like in the previous step, it will be important to note the tapering downwards and small lines of the hooves. It looks a bit like a truncated cone.
- Erase the auxiliary lines.
Make sure the transitions between the different body parts are smooth and natural. The lines should be clean and confident, representing the sleekness of the deer’s form.
- Color in the drawing.
So, in this step we add color and final details. Choose a suitable brown for the body, a darker shade for the hooves, antlers, and ear tips.
