How to Draw Cat Kid
In one of the previous lessons, we learned how to draw Dog Man. Continuing with this theme, today I’ll show you how to draw Cat Kid.

How to Draw Cat Kid: Introduction
Like the previously mentioned lesson on how to draw Dog Man, this tutorial on how to draw Cat Kid will be very simple since the original characters in the source material are also drawn in a very basic form. This deliberately simplified and even somewhat primitive style is common in many cartoons, comics, and other works. It imitates a child’s drawing but still follows the principles of visual arts.
The style is intended to be simple and effective, maintaining the basics of art rules and keeping the drawing appealing. To show you how to create intentionally simple drawings without breaking the basic rules of art, I have created this lesson on how to draw Cat Kid. The goal is for your final drawing to look attractive and well-executed.
This skill is incredibly important for anyone who wants to draw simple yet beautiful illustrations. It is especially useful when creating characters from well-known works or even your own original characters. Whether you want to draw popular characters or design your own, this technique will be very valuable.
To show you different ways of creating simple but recognizable illustrations of cartoon and comic book characters, I’ve designed a supplementary Cat Kid drawing tutorial, which you will find at the very end of this lesson.

How to Draw Cat Kid
- Sketch the shapes of the head and torso.
Start this Cat Kid’s drawing tutorial from the head and body, sketching them as ovals shapes with a bump on the head for the cheek. Don’t worry about the details yet; the goal here is to establish the overall size and placement of the character’s head, which will guide the rest of the drawing.
- Draw Cat Kid’s eyes and mask.
In this step, you’ll add two large oval shapes for the eyes. Inside each eye, draw a thick vertical line to represent the pupils. Then, add the outline for Cat Kid’s mask, which goes around his eyes. This mask should have a sleek and slightly curved shape, wrapping around the top and sides of the eyes.
- Add the ears and facial details.
Next, draw Cat Kid’s cat ears on top of the head. After that, draw the eyebrows with a couple of short lines. Below the eyes, draw a small oval to represent the nose and a couple of lines to create the mouth. Then, add some whiskers by drawing three short curved lines on either side of the nose.
- Draw the arms of Cat Kid.
Now, extend two short shapes from the top sides of the torso to create the outlines of the arms. Complete the arms with a couple of curved lines. Keep the arms of the character simple and rounded, to give the drawing of Cat Kid a cartoonish look.
- Sketch the pencils in the right arm.
Now, let’s add the distinctive feature of Cat Kid by sketching the pencils at the ends of the hands. Start with the right arm and draw multiple pencils held together, using the small hand-like shape from the previous step to connect them.
- Add the painting tools to the left arm.
Now, using simple shapes, sketch multiple drawing tools held together in the left hand, just like in the right arm. Use the small hand-like shape from the previous steps to connect the drawing and painting tools. Try to keeps the shapes of the tools simple but recognizable.
- Add the legs and tail.
Begin by adding small, simple shapes beneath the body for the legs of Cat Kid. Draw rounded shapes for the feet. After that, draw the cat tail with a smooth a curved shape. Keep the lines smooth and rounded for a childlike, cartoonish effect.
- Draw the cape and strips.
Next, draw the cape flowing behind Cat Kid, starting from the shoulders and curving outward. Add stripes on the body and tail using short and slightly curved lines. Finally, erase any unnecessary guidelines from the previous steps to clean up the Cat Kid drawing and make the lines sharper.
- Finalize and color the drawing.
Outline the entire character with bold, clean lines to make the look finished. Color the drawing of Cat Kid with shades of yellow and orange for the body, using black for the stripes and mask. The pencils can be colored in multiple colors.
