In this tutorial, you will draw Toothless in a cartoon style. Toothless is the last Night Fury in the whole world and one of the main characters of the How to Train Your Dragon cartoon universe.
Toothless is one of the smartest dragons in existence and has a great sense of humor. He reacts negatively to any threats directed at him and his friends.
Usually, this dragon is very playful and loves to be pampered. He is also very curious. Toothless perfectly understands words and commands and can even agree with what they say to him, while if he doesn’t like something, he may be offended. This dragon is loyal and always ready to protect friends.
In terms of appearance, Toothless has two pairs of wings. Its entire body is covered with coal scales, and there are barely noticeable white spots on its sides. There is a long scar on Toothless’s right shoulder and neck. Toothless’s eyes are green and are on the front of his face.

How to Draw Toothless Step by Step
- Draw the outline of the character’s head.
Depict the head of Toothless as a slightly deformed oval, as shown in the example.
- Start drawing the torso and paws of Toothless.
Below the head, draw a few curved lines to represent the neck and upper legs.
- Add one lower paw of Toothless.
To the left of the previously drawn elements, draw an oval and a few small pointed details.
- Depict the second bottom leg of Toothless.
Now draw another paw on the right side, in the same way as in the previous step.
- Sketch out the lower part of the torso and front paws.
Draw a curved line, a few short arcs, and add pointed claws on each paw.
- Add elements of Toothless’s head.
On the top and sides of Toothless’s head, draw elements of different sizes using curved lines.
- Depict the wings of Toothless.
Draw small wings on the right and left sides of Toothless’s torso.
- Draw the facial features of the character.
Inside the outline of the head, add the eyes, nose and mouth, as well as small scales.
- Color the drawing.
To color Toothless, use black, yellow, pink, and shades of gray.
