How to Draw Vegeta
Learn how to draw Vegeta from Dragon Ball. This drawing guide will be interesting to those who love classic anime and manga.
How to Draw Vegeta: Introduction
Today, I will show you how to draw Vegeta, one of the main villains in the Japanese anime world. You may recognize him from Dragon Ball.
If you want to draw Vegeta, you should follow the same style used when drawing Goku. You’ll notice the similarity in technique, even if you’re not a professional artist. As in the Goku tutorial, we will use a more simplified anime style here, which is closer to the chibi style.
To achieve a simplified style, we will use techniques that we have applied many times in our other lessons, such as exaggerated proportions and the simplified face and figure drawing style, as in the tutorial on how to draw an anime character. However, we will also include the most important details of the character to ensure he remains recognizable.
To reinforce the knowledge gained and develop new skills, we will go through an additional step-by-step instruction. This guide will be much simpler but will help you refine your abilities. Ready to begin?

How to Draw Vegeta
- Draw the head and body outline.
Start by sketching an oval shape for Vegeta’s head, slightly wider at the top to convey his face shape. Below the head, draw a smaller oval for the upper body, overlapping the head slightly. This will serve as the base for Vegeta’s chest. Keep your lines light and smooth, as these are just guidelines.
- Add the facial features.
Start with the eyes, drawing sharp, angled shapes to represent his focused expression. Draw the eyebrows just above the eyes, followed by a small curved line for his mouth. Add the nose between the eyes and mouth using a simple short line.
- Draw Vegeta’s hair outline.
Begin at the top of the forehead and draw an “M” shape along the hairline. From there, extend the hair upwards and outwards, forming sharp, jagged spikes. Vegeta’s hair has a recognizable flame-like appearance with multiple large spikes that fan out around his head.
- Sketch the torso and armor.
Draw the outlines of Vegeta’s armor on the torso using smooth lines. The armor should resemble a vest. Than add details to the armor. Start by drawing lines across the shoulders to form the shoulder pads. Then, sketch a rectangular shape in the center of the chest to represent the front panel of the armor.
- Draw the arms of Vegeta.
Start by drawing the shoulder area, then illustrate the upper and lower arms. Each arm ends in clenched fists, ready for combat. With a couple of rounded lines, depict the outlines of the gloves. When drawing the forearms, make them shorter to convey the perspective.
- Illustrate the legs of the character.
Now, move on to sketching Vegeta’s lower body. Start by outlining the upper part of the legs, then draw downwards to create the rest of the legs. Finish by drawing his knee-high boots, which are an important part of his overall design.
- Detail the hands, armor, and legs.
In this step, go over your Vegeta drawing and add any missing details that will complete the appearance. First, separate the fingers with simple, short lines. Next, add design elements to the armor for more detail. After that, draw the toes on the boots and add some folds.
- Erase the guidelines from the sketch.
Use darker lines to outline the main features of your Vegeta drawing, like his hair, face, body, and armor. Erase any unnecessary guidelines, such as the initial oval shapes for the head and body. The goal is to have a clean drawing before the coloring process.
- Add colors to the Vegeta drawing.
Begin by coloring Vegeta’s armor, which consists of blue, white, and yellow sections. His hair should be colored in a solid black, and his skin should be light tan. But for a variation, you can color Vegeta’s hair yellow or even blue. To make your drawing more three-dimensional, you can add shadows.
How to Draw Vegeta: Alternative Technique
This is a more simplified version of drawing Vegeta, resulting in a basic, chibi-style depiction of the character. This version will be more suitable for the youngest and most inexperienced artists.
To draw Vegeta in this style, begin by creating a rounded outline for the head. Add small ears on each side of the head to frame the face. Next, sketch the outline of his spiky hair. Below the head, draw a simple oval for the body. Continue by drawing the legs, using two straight lines that curve outward at the bottom for his boots.
After that, draw his arms, keeping them short and rounded to fit the simplified style. Once the limbs are in place, add his facial features, including large, sharp eyes and simple eyebrows.
Next, focus on drawing the details of his armor. Add a rectangular chest piece and simple lines on his shoulders to define the armor. After the armor is complete, review the entire drawing of Vegeta, ensuring everything looks properly. Finish by adding colors to Vegeta’s suit and boots.
Conclusion
So, this lesson taught you how to draw Vegeta, a character from the famous anime Dragon Ball. We learned two methods of drawing this character: the first was a simplified version that stays close to the original form, while the second was a super simplified version created specifically for younger artists.
