How to Draw Deku
I really love sketching anime characters and I know you do too, so let’s get started with this tutorial and learn how to draw Deku.

If you like to draw anime and manga characters, then you will definitely like this tutorial. Here you will learn how to draw Deku. This is one of the most popular characters.
Deku is a short teenager who studied at the hero academy. His real name is Izuku Midoriya. He is not confident in himself, but is not afraid of dangers and is always ready to help, even risking his life.
Deku has an unusual appearance. He has tousled green hair and wears a green jumpsuit with black knee and elbow pads. In general, Deku has a sloppy but energetic look.
The lesson consists of nine steps, each of which is demonstrated and supplemented with a small hint. Your work is to follow each step correctly. Take your time and be careful.

How to draw Deku step by step
- Mark the lower part of the anime head.
To mark proportions early, draw the head of Deku with a simple baseline. Lightly draw a wide U-shape for the rounded chin and jaw of Izuku Midoriya (Deku). Keep the curve smooth and leave generous space above for the big anime hair. You can add a faint center tick to help symmetry.
- Sketch the anime character hairstyle and ears.
Now, sketch the uneven and fluffy spikes of Deku’s hair around it. Make the fringe fall in three to five large locks toward the eyebrows, with shorter tufts near the ears. As always , drawing anime hair, vary spike sizes so the hairstyle looks natural.
- Draw Deku’s neck and collar.
To connect head to body in the next steps, add the collar elements of the anime character. Under the chin, draw the curved neck with a short cylinder, then sketch the layered mask/hood collar Deku often wears as a pair of nested arcs.
- Sketch Deku’s torso and belt area.
To plan the pose, block in the upper body. From the collar, draw the simple tapered torso like a simple trapezoid, narrower at the top. At the waist, illustrate a horizontal belt with a central buckle rectangle and two short side cylinders for pouches.
- Draw Izuku Midoriya’s legs.
Draw the shorts as a wide band under the belt, then add rounded thigh guards/straps on each leg. Keep all details od your anime sketch minimal. Recheck perspective and symmetry.
- Sketch the young hero’s footwear.
Sketch short, sturdy boots: block the shafts as rectangles and flare the toes with smooth ovals. Outline the thick soles with a second contour following each boot. You can also add a toe cap curve and two or three small lace loops, then a tongue line on each shoe.
- Sketch the clenched fists of the anime hero.
From the shoulders, draw the uneven and simple arms as tapered tubes. Cap each with a rounded glove cuff and draw an anime hand made from a blocky shape plus a thumb curve. Mirror the gesture left and right but vary angles. You can also add a short seam on each glove.
- Add the anime-style facial features.
First, draw anime eyes halfway down the head. Add small irises near centers, thin brows above the fringe, and a tiny triangle nose. Sketch a wide smiling mouth with a simple line.
- Add iconic colors to Izuku Midoriya.
To finish the main shape, erase guides: remove the extra construction and overlapping sketch lines. Reinforce and trace the outer contours and details of the anime character with darker strokes. Color Izuku Midoriya with flat, iconic tones: deep green hair, teal suit, black undersleeves and leggings, dark red belt and shoes, light gray for collar and gloves, and skin tones for face and ear.
By tradition, at the end of the lesson, a download link is available for you, which you can use and save a brief instruction in PDF format.
Additional Izuku Midoriya Drawing Tutorial
This version continues the main tutorial on how to draw Deku and presents an additional variation with different forms and proportions. The drawing keeps the same recognizable look of Izuku Midoriya from My Hero Academia, but with a slightly different style that complements the original lesson.
To illustrate this version, sketch the rounded head and spiky hair, trying to make the silhouette light and exaggerated. Draw the small body with a short torso.
Outline the bent arms and clenched fists. Sketch large, expressive eyes and a smile of Deku’s face. Once the basic outline is complete, refine the suit details and accessories with clear lines.
Use green, teal, and brown shades for the costume to finish this additional Deku drawing in a unified and consistent style with the main tutorial.
